How to Clean Marine Woven Vinyl Flooring
One of the biggest advantages of GatorBack Marine woven vinyl flooring over traditional carpet is how easy it is to clean. This guide covers routine cleaning, deep cleaning, and the products to use and avoid to keep your flooring looking its best for years.
Routine After-Trip Cleaning
After every outing on the water, a quick rinse goes a long way:
- Rinse the deck thoroughly with fresh water, especially after saltwater use
- Scrub lightly with a soft brush and a few drops of mild dish soap
- Rinse again completely
- Allow to dry in open air before storing or covering
This 10-minute routine prevents salt, grime, and organic material from building up and extends the life of your flooring significantly.
Products to Use
- Mild dish soap (non-citrus)
- Marine vinyl cleaner (specifically rated for vinyl flooring)
- White vinegar diluted 50/50 with water for odor treatment
- Soft bristle brush or mop
Products to Avoid
- Bleach: Breaks down UV stabilizers and causes premature fading
- Acetone or harsh solvents: Can soften and permanently damage vinyl
- Citrus-based cleaners: Acidic formulas degrade vinyl over time
- Abrasive scrubbers or steel wool: Scratches the wear surface
- High-pressure washers at close range: Can force water under seams
Deep Cleaning for Heavy Buildup
If routine cleaning has been neglected or the deck has heavy staining, a deeper clean is needed:
- Wet the entire surface
- Apply marine vinyl cleaner and let it dwell 5-10 minutes
- Scrub with a medium-bristle brush in the direction of the weave pattern
- Rinse thoroughly with fresh water
- For remaining stains, see our stain removal guide
Cleaning the Woven Texture
The woven pattern that gives GatorBack vinyl its grip and visual appeal can trap fine particles between the strands. Use a brush that gets into the texture. Brushing with the weave direction first loosens embedded particles, then brushing across the weave pushes them out.
Frequency Recommendations
- After every use: Fresh water rinse
- Monthly: Soap and scrub
- Seasonally: Full deep clean
- Before storage: Thorough cleaning and drying
