One bonded piece. No glue. No foam.
Why GatorBack marine flooring holds together where other felt-backed products don't. Made in the USA, from start to finish.
Heat does the work, not glue.
The woven vinyl surface and the mesh felt backing are joined through a specialized heat process that fuses the two materials directly together. Nothing is added in between.
The result is a single, unified flooring material. The bond is part of the product itself, not a layer of adhesive that has to survive sun, water, and years of foot traffic.
This process is exclusive to our manufacturing partner, which means you will not find this construction in any other felt-backed marine flooring.
How other felt-backed flooring is built
Every other felt-backed product we have found either uses adhesive, or adds a foam layer between the surface and the backing. Each extra step is an extra place for something to go wrong.
GatorBack
Heat-fused. Two materials become one. No adhesive, no foam, no added steps.
Adhesive-bonded
The surface and backing are glued. Adhesive can degrade with heat, moisture, and time, and the layers can separate.
Foam-layered
A foam layer sits in between: felt to foam, then foam to vinyl. Two bonds instead of one, an extra step, and an extra place for something to go wrong after installation.
A stronger bond, fewer failure points
Stays together
With no glue line to break down, there is nothing to peel, bubble, or delaminate after installation.
Fewer steps, fewer problems
One fused material means no extra foam layer or second bond that can shift, compress, or separate after install.
Built for the water
Heat bonding holds up to sun, spray, and temperature swings in a way adhesive-based construction cannot match.
Why felt backing belongs on a boat
A boat deck is wet, hot, and in the sun all day. Felt is breathable, so moisture escapes and the floor dries out. It does not hold water, it stays flat underfoot, and it does not break down the way other backings do.
Foam backing
Foam soaks up water and holds it against your deck. Mold, mildew, and odor follow, and the pad compresses and breaks down over time.
Foam and felt backing
Felt on the surface does not change what is underneath. The foam core still absorbs water, and the extra layers can separate.
Rubberized backing
Rubber seals moisture in instead of letting it out. It also gets heavy, hot, and stiff in the sun, and can crack with temperature swings.
American made, start to finish
